All You Need To Know: Summer Programme 2023!

Intercultural Youth Scotland
June 6, 2023

What is the IYS Summer Programme?

The annual IYS Summer Programme is a month-long series of outings, activities and experiences organised by our Youth Workers for July. This year we have collaborated greatly with partners to produce a cost-free programme for young people to sign up to!

Why does IYS run a Summer Programme?

We know that people can get a bit restless over the Summer. If nothing else, it’s an opportunity to get out of the house, meet new people your age, experience fun and interesting activities, learn about new things, join in with projects, build confidence, and we can sign post you to other great opportunities that are coming up - plus we can support with school, further education, work experience and employment, and other additional services. We are also here if you just want to hang out and chat!

Who is it for?

The Summer Programme is for ages 14-25, young BPoC people, but we are open to the wider community.

And more!

What types of things are lined up?

We have confirmed a day behind the scenes at Capital Theatres, a sports day, some hiking, outdoor cinemas, family and friends' picnic, plus a BBC studio tour in Glasgow. We also have an exclusive out of hours opportunity to meet with award winning Barbadian-Scottish multidisciplinary artist, Alberta Whittle at Modern Galleries.

“We’re delighted to be working with Intercultural Youth Scotland and offering their participants the chance to see the inspirational Ballet Black. We’re also looking forward to giving them a window into working life in the creative industries with our Theatre Insights course where they can try their hand at new skills and learn about a range of different professions both on and off stage.  We’re excited about learning from Intercultural Youth Scotland about their perspective on our work and our industry from their lived experience.” - Izzy Gray, Creative Engagement Coordinator – Capital Theatres.

I’m looking for some volunteer experience, could I support the Summer Programme as a volunteer instead?

Yes, you can! We are always open to supporting people building up their skills and CV. If you are interested in volunteering as a Summer Programme chaperone, then you can sign-up via the volunteer link. Scroll down to the bottom of the website page, tell us about yourself, and how you would like to volunteer for us during July - or DM us on Instagram and we'll hand you to the right point of contact!

“In youthwork we are looking for volunteers who are anti-racist, empathetic, understanding of young people, and have a willingness to listen and learn from them. Lived Experience is beneficial. We also are looking for commitment and reliability. Volunteers should also be fun!” - Nic, Youth Work Service Manager.

Where can people sign up to the Summer Programme?

Sign up by clicking this link.

What stuff does IYS have running if the Summer Programme isn’t my thing?

We can guarantee the Summer Programme will be your thing, but you don’t have to sign up to everything that is taking place in July. You can choose to sign up to specific days out of the Summer Programme. You can also enjoy our core programmes, like The Block or schedule a time slot with our music producers at The Block Beat Studio on site! We also have a monthly live talent showcase called SixFive which you can get involved with after Summer.

Who do I email if I have more questions?

You can email Youth Work at youthwork@interculturalyouthscotland.org or as for Nic or Samir via DM in Instagram for extra information.
